Good questions

Personal care FAQs

Honest answers about home health aide care with Canela. Have another question? We're happy to talk it through.

What's the difference between a home health aide and a nurse?

A home health aide provides hands-on help with everyday living, bathing, dressing, mobility, meals and companionship, and does not require a doctor's order. A nurse provides clinical, doctor-directed care such as wound care and medication management. Many families use both, and we can help you decide.

Can aides give medications?

Our home health aides offer medication reminders, friendly prompts to take medications as prescribed, but they do not administer medications. If your loved one needs medication management, that's part of skilled nursing, and we're glad to talk about it.

Are your caregivers screened?

Yes. Our aides are experienced and background-checked, and we thoughtfully match each caregiver to your family so the fit feels right.

What languages do you speak?

Our team supports care in English, Spanish and Armenian, so your loved one feels understood and at ease in their own language.

What areas do you serve?

We serve families across Southern California, from Oxnard to Orange County, including Ventura County, greater Los Angeles and everywhere in between. Not sure if we reach you? Just ask.
